Basic Bread Recipe (Makes 1 x 750g Loaf)
Ingredients:
✔ 1 ½ teaspoons Instant Yeast (Australian standard measurement)
✔ 500g of any Basic Ingredients’ Bread Blend
✔ Water: Mix 200mL tap water with 130mL hot water (you may not need all of it)
Method:
1️⃣ Mix the Dry Ingredients
- In a large mixing bowl, blend together the bread mix and yeast.
2️⃣ Add Water Gradually
- Slowly add warm water, a little at a time, while mixing with a spoon.
- Mix until all dry ingredients are absorbed into the dough (it should look shaggy).
- You may not need all the water—stop when the dough is soft but not sticky.
3️⃣ Knead the Dough
- Lightly flour a clean surface and place the dough onto it.
- Knead for 10 minutes using the palms of your hands until smooth and elastic.
- If dough is sticky, sprinkle a little more flour as needed.
4️⃣ First Rise (Proofing)
- Lightly oil the mixing bowl and place the dough inside.
- Cover with plastic wrap or a damp cloth.
- Let it rise in a warm place for 45 minutes to 1 hour until doubled in size.
5️⃣ Shape the Dough
- Remove the dough from the bowl and knead lightly for 1 minute.
- Shape it into a loaf and either place it in a baking tin or shape it as a free-form loaf and place it on a baking tray.
- Spray the top with water and sprinkle seeds (optional).
6️⃣ Final Rise
- Cover the dough again and let it rise in a warm place for 45-60 minutes, or until it rises above the tin.
- On a cold day, this may take longer.
7️⃣ Bake the Bread
- Preheat oven to 200-220°C.
- Bake for 10 minutes, then reduce the temperature to 180-200°C and bake for another 15-20 minutes.
- For a crusty loaf, spray the dough with water before placing it in the oven.
8️⃣ Check & Cool
- The bread is ready when it turns golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let it cool down for 15 minutes before slicing.
